Motherhood: A concerned Busy Mom: ” Am I Being Selfish if I Take Care Of Myself?

Hello Great Mothers!

Motherhood is a blessing, though it’s challenging because it brings lots of responsibilities. Most importantly it teaches us unconditional love. Because we love our children and husband, we give it all for them. We go to extra lengths to take care of them, even to the extent of neglecting ourselves. Even when our bodies signal us to relax and rest for a while, we ignore them to attend to one more chore. Our health calls our attention to go see a doctor, we ignore it for one more chore.

In the end, motherhood becomes a burden to us, and if care is not taken we become a burden to our children and spouses. What do I mean? When you don’t find time to rest and give yourself a good treat, you overstress yourself. According to research, prolonged stress causes your body to be in a constant state of preparation for physical action. When your body doesn’t have time to get back into balance, it overworks and your immune system deteriorates, leaving you more prone to life-threatening illnesses like; heart disease, memory impairments, depression, etc, because vital biological functions have been interfered with.

You see why I said if care is not taken you become a burden to your spouses and children. How do you avoid this? Find time to rest. Rest and take care of yourself. As you have the responsibility of taking care of your children and spouses, you also have the responsibility of taking care of yourself. How? Some of the ways you can take care of yourself as a busy mum have been discussed in my previous articles, others are;

Go for a movie
Despite your busy schedule, try and make an effort to see a movie occasionally. After all, you require some enjoyment as well. You’ll feel relaxed and upbeat as a result. If taking the whole family doesn’t work out, you might also go with your girlfriends to the movies.

Read a book to unwind
When was the last time you finished reading a whole book? It’s time to pick up a book and read if you enjoy reading but have put it on the back burner due to your busy schedule. You can read a book while your child is playing nearby or, even better, you can encourage your child to develop a reading habit.

Wow! Mothers too can have fun. Yeah, all you need is to be intentional about your health and proper planning.
