Motherhood: Discipline At Home; Who Enforces It More, Father Or Mother? 4

Hello, Great Mothers!

A child grows and begins to observe and learn from its immediate environment. The environment teaches and forms a child.

The environment is the home, which may comprise the father, mother, siblings, aunts, uncles, and so on. As the child grows, he/she forms his/her character from what is observed in the immediate environment. It is the responsibility of both parents to correct the child when adopting the wrong characters.

This correction may have to be conscious and consistent. Consistency helps the child to accept the correction and adjust.

Every parent wishes to nurture their children to become responsible adults who will contribute positively to society. No parent wishes to have a child who will become a menace to society. So parents adopt different disciplinary methods in training their children.

They try to teach their children self-control, discipline, and accountability by using different disciplinary tactics.

However, it is of more benefit when parents; father, and mother come together and agree on procedures for disciplining in the home. As discussed in previous articles, this helps the children to easily accept the mode of discipline, and change their character, thereby creating a happy and peaceful home.

When parents are not cooperative, it creates division in the home.

However, in most homes, the father and mother have different ways of enforcing discipline. For example, a father walks into his 6-year-old baby’s room scattered with his toys and painting materials.

His reaction; “I will be back after 15 minutes, I want to see your room tidied up, next time you mess up your room, you will not watch your favorite TV program for one week”
