Motherhood: How To Teach Children To Trust In Their Own Judgement 7

Hello Great Mothers! We all want our children to succeed in life, and so we try our best to ensure they do. Because of this desire, we want our children to attend a good school, have great careers, and make all decisions. We do this because we believe they are kids and probably too small to make meaningful decisions. Also, we believe that our 5 or 6 years old child cannot clean ditches properly, tidy up his or her bed, etc. and we carry out this responsibility by ourselves.

Although we may be doing all this with good intentions, we are robbing them of their sense of control. We are not doing them any good when we don’t allow them to make certain decisions themselves or allow them to take up some little tasks at home while we guide and correct them. This is because these opportunities give them room to think of better ways to do things well, especially when they fail, and also build their self-confidence when they succeed.

Some of the ways of helping our children to trust in their judgment have been discussed in my previous articles. Others are:
1) Praise them when they succeed: this is very important as it helps our children to recognize and understand their strengths.
2) Have them set Goals: Get to know their interest and their goals and help them set smaller goals to achieve the big one. By doing this, you have shown that you love what interests them and also help them to learn ways of achieving their goals. With this, you can also help them develop their talents.
3) Give them room to grow: you give them room to grow by giving them some independence to pursue their interest, as long as it is morally right. We can also give them room to grow by allowing them to take up some home responsibilities, and also guide and encourage them to do better whenever they did not do it right.

Children who have learned to trust in their judgment do go far in life.

Watch out for my next article for the concluding part.

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
