Motherhood: Teaching Children How To Pray And Study The Word (2)

Great Mothers!

As mothers, it is our responsibility to pray for our children, and also teach them how to pray by themselves, for themselves and others. This will make a great difference in our children’s lives and encourage them to develop a close relationship with God.

It is right not only to teach them how to pray but also to teach them the benefits of prayer through practical experience, which will be of greater advantage. It deepens their relationship with God when our children realize the value of prayer and start doing it regularly throughout the week.

The disciples of Jesus understood the importance of prayer when they see Jesus always going aside to spend time with God. Also, they see the result of His prayers; Jesus’ lifestyle, character, teaching, and the great works He did. This made them ask Jesus to teach them how to pray.

So also we are expected to give our children practical experience when teaching them how to pray rather than just telling them they should. We can do this by our conduct, lifestyle, character, and attitudes to prayer, and in studying the word of God, our response to His call, and our testimonies will motivate them to want to learn how to pray.

To achieve the desired results, we must teach our children the following features of effective prayer;

1)Talking and listening to God are two aspects of prayer: we must teach them that prayer is another word for communicating with God. We must teach them that prayer goes beyond simply informing Him of their needs, but they should also listen to Him talk back to them.

We are to let them know that talking also entails listening, therefore they cannot be the only ones speaking, they must listen to Him also. We should make them understand that they can communicate with God in the same way they do with their closest friends.

Other features will be discussed in the next article.
