Motherhood: Tips For Raising Emotionally Intelligent Kids (1)

Hello Great Mothers,

We often focus mostly on nurturing good morals in our kids and raising academically intelligent kids, while this is important, raising emotionally intelligent kids is also very crucial.

Emotional Intelligence is the ability of a person to understand, and manage their and others’ emotions, develop empathy, and develop social needed to go through life.

Before now, getting great and highly competitive jobs only require graduating with good grades. However, in our present world employers not only look out for good grades but also look out for an individual who can express and manage his/her emotions, understand, interpret, and manage others’ emotions. Employers look out for one who can build a good interpersonal relationship with others by being aware of other people’s emotions, and showing empathy, and appreciation when necessary.

This is because employers now realize that having skills to relate well with one another within the workplace is as important as being great in one’s line of profession. Employers realize that for smooth operation and ease of workflow, employees would have to have good interpersonal relationships. Good interpersonal relationship increases productivity at work.

Aside workplace, these skills are important for one to relate well with anyone. To maintain and build healthy and loyal customers in business, these skills are needed. They are also needed to build and maintain good relationships in business, within the heigbourhood, among family members.

These are crucial skills that develop over time and are often difficult to imbibe when a child is mature. Therefore we mothers need to ensure we build good emotional intelligence in our kids as they grow.

Strategies on how to raise emotionally intelligent kids will be discussed in my next article.

Both academic intelligence and emotional intelligence are important when raising children, but which do you think is more crucial? Please share your thoughts.

We don’t need to be perfect mothers to raise our children, but with God’s guidance, genuine love, patience, and understanding, we can nurture children who will positively impact the world.
