Motherhood: Ways To Protect Your Teen From Alcohol And Other Drugs 4

Nearly all nations of the world have a legalized age for alcohol intake. This ranges from 18, 20, to 21 years. However, according to a report, a greater percentage of high school students have tried alcohol.
Eventually, the choice to drink or not drink alcohol is personal.

Alcohol is often produced from fermenting grains, fruits, or vegetables. It is produced when food’s carbohydrates are fermented using yeast or bacteria. Many essential products, ranging from cheese to medicines, are produced by fermentation. Alcohol comes in several forms and can be employed as a disinfectant, an antiseptic, or a sedative.

Why do teenagers need to be cautious about drinking alcohol if it is made from a natural product? When alcohol is consumed, it is taken up by the bloodstream. Thereby having an impact on the brain and spinal cord, which together make up the central nervous system, which regulates almost all bodily processes.

If alcohol has this negative effect on the central nervous system, why do teenagers get involved in alcohol? Some of the causes of teenage alcoholism were discussed in my previous article. Other articles are:

1)Pushing Boundaries
Most teenagers believe that growing up entails defying the law. The majority of teenagers believe they know everything. For example; they are experts on how much sleep they need at night, so don’t mind using their cell phones late into the night. Likewise, they believe that drinking alcohol has no negative short- or long-term effects on their health.

Therefore, mothers are expected to establish firm boundaries and uphold their disciplinary actions. However, teenagers are mature enough to understand the repercussions of their actions if they believe they are old enough to break the rules.

2)Self-Medicating
The truth is teenage years are an uproar of hormones and emotions. For example, The moment a teenager scores the winning goal in a crucial soccer match, he is on cloud nine. Coupled with the fact that such a teenager is having a math test the following day. He/she may have been overwhelmed by an upcoming math test. He might believe that drinking alcohol will help him chase the high of being the team hero or numb his depressive sentiments. As mothers, It’s crucial to teach our children thè positive way of handling anxiety and stress.
