Motherhood: When You Feel Unseen And Unappreciated As A Mother (2)

Being a mother entails taking care of everyone and everything in the home. Aside from all the domestic responsibilities of a mother, she connects everyone in the family and provides emotional support for everyone. She knows and remembers the details of the lives of everyone in her home, such as the date and time of the children’s events in school e.g., quizzes, debates, etc. She makes sure they prepare for the events. She remembers the names of her children’s friends, and so on.

Everyone requires her assistance and attention; Mummy, please help me with my shoelace, Mum, could you please help me fix my bag? Is your food ready, honey? All of this, in addition to her work, is what a mother has to deal with daily.

Traditionally, family members believe that all of these are responsibilities of a mother and thus do not require appreciation. Mothers, on the other hand, feel the need to be appreciated, and when they are not, they feel unseen and unappreciated, which can have an impact on their emotional well-being.

One of the things we can do when we feel this way was discussed in my previous article, more will be discussed here.

Inform Family members of the Need to be Appreciated

Often, family members do not see the need to appreciate mothers because they consider all tasks to be her responsibility. However, there is no crime in speaking up if you feel unappreciated. If you bottle it up, you will be a sad and nagging mother to your children and a wife to your husband. This will create an unpleasant environment in the house.

According to “First Thing First”, ‘when spouses show one another appreciation, their relationship is stronger for it’. As a result, it is critical to remind our family members of the importance of being appreciated. To achieve the desired result, this should be done in a friendly and loving manner.

It is important to note here that open communication is necessary for a healthy and supportive family. So, mothers, inform your family members of the need to show some appreciation to create a healthy home where everyone feels valued and appreciated.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
