Motherhood: When You Feel Unseen And Unappreciated As A Mother 9

As discussed in previous articles, mothers play important roles in the home. These responsibilities make a mother unique, valuable, and very significant. She contributes to the physical and emotional development of every household member. It becomes more difficult if the mother is a working woman, who also cares for the household.

Nevertheless, every woman expects care and affection from her family. This is because she sacrifices a lot for her family’s comforts. But in most homes, mothers feel unseen and unappreciated. She feels taken for granted because her family does not respect, value, or acknowledge all she does. If these feelings are left unattended to, it can affect you in the following ways;

It can impact your mental and emotional health:

These feelings of being unappreciated can manifest in a variety of psychological and mental health issues. It can cause the following health issues, like;

i)Stress and Anxiety: Unresolved feelings of unappreciation can lead to stress and anxiety, which can negatively impact your overall emotional well-being.

ii)Depression: A persistent sense of feeling being undervalued can eventually lead to depression.

iii)Emotional Exhaustion: Navigating daily life with unmet emotional needs can lead to emotional exhaustion, resulting in feelings of depletion.

It strains Relationships:
When feelings of appreciation are left unchecked for a long time, it influences the communications within the family, and this creates gaps in relationships.

It also causes resentment and withdrawal. Unappreciation can lead to resentment towards other members of the family, most especially those who are ignoring the efforts to appreciate, leading to emotional withdrawal as a coping mechanism. Unappreciation’s strain may also cause conflicts, misunderstandings, and unhappiness within the home. At this point, if care is not taken, the home may break
