Mount Washington Experiencing Weather Colder Than Planet Mars

Mount Washington New Hampshire is experiencing its coldest wind chill as the temperature recorded reached -110 Fahrenheit, colder than planet Mars, which is at -105 Fahrenheit this week, according to NASA.

The wind chill is a result of a blast of Artic air, creating crazy weather in the northeast of North America, which hits a record temperature this year, passing the previous high of -103 Fahrenheit.

Mount Washington is located in the White Mountains of northern New Hampshire, 6,288 feet high, being affected by the cold at that height and the blast of arctic air.

The weather has disrupted the activities of residents of Boston, as over 60 flight delays and 10 cancellations were experienced at the famous Logan international airport, one of the busiest airports in the United States, due to freezing fuel pumps.

Flights further south were also disrupted, with more than 70 delays and three cancellations reported on Saturday.

Speaking about the severity of the weather, Francis Tarasiewicz, a Mount Washington Observatory meteorologist said, “At one point, on one of our west-facing doors, the hinge that keeps it closed broke, the force of the winds was so strong. So, we had to do an emergency repair.”

Francis described the weather as a bee sting-like feeling on the skin.

The Saturday’s wind chills forecast can result in frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes

People have been advised to stay inside as, even with thick clothing, the extreme cold can be harmful to anyone outside for a long time.

Experts also advised residents in the northeast not to go skiing or snowmobiling in the icy weather.

Homeless people were welcomed and housed at the city’s largest hub transit, Boston South Station.

The Mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu declare a state of emergency and unlocked warming centres to help more than 650,000 residents of the city cope with the deadly weather.

Meanwhile, it is predicted that the wind chill will be departing the northeast in 36 hours, with temperatures in places like Maine, expected to reach an ice-melting point as high as 37 degrees.
