“Muslims Are Also Permitted To Wear Hijab To Nursery Schools” – Islamic Group

The Supreme Court’s recent decision regarding the usage of the hijab in Lagos schools should be applied to nursing schools nationwide, according to the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN).

The organization praised the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the wearing of the hijab in public schools and called it a landmark decision that had been long-awaited.

Last month, the Supreme Court overturned Lagos State’s ban on female Muslim pupils attending public schools wearing the hijab.

The state’s appeal of the 2016 decision of the Court of Appeal, Lagos was rejected by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who wrote the lead majority judgment, which was read by Justice Tijani Abubakar.

The appeal was denied by the judge because it lacked merit.

However, IMAN has stated that this verdict should be applied to nursing schools all across the nation.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, Professor Ibrahim Oreagba, the organization’s national president, revealed that nursing schools across the nation are included in the application of the law.

He further stated that anyone who violates the hijab right will face harsh legal consequences.

He continued by stating that cases of Hijab rejection and harassment have been documented in nursing schools, among other institutions.

He urged Muslim students to approach their studies head-on in order to dispel whatever misconceptions they may have about Islam and Muslims in the country.

He said, “The judgement of the Supreme Court on hijab is a remarkable one. It is indeed long-awaited. IMAN joins other Muslim organisations and individuals to welcome and celebrate this judgement. It puts an end to the debate on the use of hijab in public institutions.

“Despite the fact that the constitution is clear on the matter of Freedom of Thought, Conscience, and Religion, some overzealous persons have harassed our Muslim sisters over the divinely ordained hijab. This will no longer be acceptable.

“We especially declare that the ruling of the Supreme Court must be applied in our various nursing schools across the country. The nursing school is part of the institutions where cases of Hijab denials and harassment have been recorded. IMAN uses this medium to sound a note of warning to the concerned authorities to take note of the judgement.”
