The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reiterated that the nation’s ban on small-volume alcoholic beverages cannot be lifted.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Friday, Dr. Festus Ukadike, the NAFDAC Zonal Director, South East, made the promise.
According to Ukadike, producers and distributors of small sachet alcoholic beverages have already been targeted by the crackdown. Current events in Nigeria.
He stated that cleaning up the remaining alcoholic products on the market was the next step following enforcement.
Additionally, he stated that businesses would not be impacted by the ban because they could continue to produce alcohol in bottles with a minimum volume of 200 milliliters.
He claims that the zones of Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and Anambra have seen seizures and arrests.
The zonal director stated that NAFDAC’s decision to outlaw sachet alcohol was influenced by the health of children.
According to him, children in Nigeria need to be shielded from the harmful drinking habits that are common among young children.
“If our children are no longer exposed to sachet alcohol, they will live healthier lives, curb antisocial behaviours and promote the country’s fight against cancer and other terminal diseases,” he said.
This is not the first time I have heard about this issue, and I sincerely hope the ban will take effect immediately. The sachet alcohol drinks are truly causing significant damage in the lives of many people, and it’s high time we take decisive action to protect our communities and promote healthier choices.
