NDLEA Intercepts Large Consignment Of Canadian Loud; Tramadol

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, intercepted a large consignment of Canadian Loud, an imported strong synthetic strain of cannabis, packaged in 324 bags with a gross weight of 111.2 kilogrammes in the Onikan area of Lagos Island while being transported for distribution in an unregistered Grand Caravan vehicle driven by Taofeek Yusuf, 42.

According to a statement issued by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the arrest of Taofeek and seizure of the imported consignment occurred late at night on Friday, January 12th, 2024, as a result of credible intelligence following the arrest of another drug trafficking suspect, Godwin ThankGod, the previous day Thursday, January 11th, by NDLEA officers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja Lagos. Godwin was apprehended while attempting to board a Royal Air Maroc trip from Milan, Italy, with amounts of codeine-based syrup and Rohypnol concealed in his luggage.

‘’The suspect who is a regular flyer was arrested during a search of his luggage at the Departure Gate of Terminal 2 of the airport. The search to the discovery of five cartons consisting of 50 bottles of codeine syrup and 300 tablets of rohypnol,” Babafemi said.

In the same line, NDLEA agents recovered 30,000 packs of tramadol 225mg pills from the SAHCO import yard on Friday, January 12th. Following a cooperative assessment with other security authorities at the airport, the package, which arrived from Karachi, Pakistan on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines with airway bill number 074-62674964, was taken into custody.

Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives from the Directorate of Operation and General Investigation, DOGI, intercepted various quantities of tramadol and cannabis sativa concealed in the soles of sports canvas shoes bound for Oman, as well as another consignment of tramadol and Rohypnol concealed in spices bound for the United Kingdom, on Tuesday 9th January, at two courier firms in Lagos.

Oyo state operatives raided a clandestine skuchies factory operated by Oyadeji Dimeji, 28, in the Moniya area of Ibadan on Thursday 11th January, recovering 76.6kg of cannabis sativa, 134 grammes of tramadol, 93 grammes of rophynol, and 50 litres of already produced skuchies, a liquid mixture containing various types of psychoactive substances.
