NDLEA Officer Shot D3ad During Drug Raid In Ondo

An agent of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), known only as Jide, was fatally shot by suspected drug traffickers in Ondo, the administrative center of Ondo West Local Government Area in the state.

The tragic event took place during a covert operation in the early hours of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at a residence in the Ita’nla area of Ondo town, where the agency was acting on information regarding concealed narcotics.

A source, speaking to reporters, revealed that the NDLEA team had raided the building to seize drugs reportedly hidden in the ceiling of the property.

“I guess the team got a tip that some drugs were stored inside the residential building at Ita’nla in Ondo. So, the officials came very early in a sting operation to bust the building,” the source said.

“Immediately they came in, some of them entered the building to recover the exhibits while the late officer, Jide, stood outside mounting sentry guard.”

It was learned that a group of hoodlums, believed to be part of the drug syndicate, appeared suddenly and opened fire on the officer.

The agent was struck in the neck and was immediately taken to a hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.

SP Olayinka Ayanlade, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the incident during a phone interview.

“Immediately it happened, we reinforced some of our officers to the scene. We have been able to arrest four prime suspects who are now in our custody,” the PPRO said.

He further noted that a single-barrel gun was seized from the suspects, adding that investigations are ongoing in partnership with the NDLEA to ensure all those responsible for the brutal attack are brought to justice.
