The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) officially flagged off the distribution of relief materials to victims of the recent devastating flood in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.

The distribution ceremony took place at the Mokwa Local Government Secretariat and was led by Alhaji Aliyu Waziri, Director of NEMA’s North Central Directorate, alongside Air Commodore A.K. Oyong, Director of Search and Rescue at NEMA Headquarters, Abuja.

During the flag-off, selected beneficiaries were symbolically presented with items, while the remainder was formally handed over to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and the Secretary of Mokwa Local Government Council, Muhammad Jiya. Jiya, who also chairs the Distribution Committee, is tasked with coordinating the delivery of the remaining materials to affected residents across the region.

The event brought together several key stakeholders, including traditional leader Sarkin Hausawa Mokwa, Alhaji Tanko Bala, and representatives from Jumma’at Nasir Islam (JNI), as well as security and humanitarian organizations such as the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

So far, 111 bodies of victims have been recovered from the flooding, while other victims are still being searched for in the wreckage. The disaster occurred in Mokwa, Niger State, due to heavy rainfall that resulted in significant loss of life and property.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
