Nigerian Man Arrested In Thailand For Alleged Cocaine Possession

Anamere George, a 26-year-old Nigerian man, was detained by immigration police in Phuket, Thailand, for allegedly overstaying his visa by four years and cocaine was also found in his home.

Anamere was apprehended during a car chase at 1:30 pm on August 3, 2023, on the way to the Baan Suan Loch Palm housing development in Kathu district, according to Phuket Immigration police chief Pol Col Thanes Sukchai.

At 1:15 pm, Cherng Police called Phuket Provincial Police with a report of a guy driving a grey Mazda 2 recklessly and colliding with other vehicles as he drove down a busy road past the Cherng Talay Police Station.

Similar reports from Phuket Immigration and Phuket Tourist Police officers quickly followed.

According to reports, the grey Mazda 2 left Srisoonthorn on Thepkrasattri Rd. at Khao Lan Intersection after travelling in Moo 4 in the direction of Baan Pasak and Baan Don.

The Nigerian man then did a U-turn and travelled back to the Heroines Monument before turning south to Wat Tha Ruea. After driving to the Heroines Monument, he turned left towards Pa Khlok.

The man then travelled to Koh Kaew via side roads before turning into the road that led toward Kathu after passing the golf club.

Kathu The driver stopped, turned around and sped off as police set up a roadblock close to the Loch Palm Golf Course. The police pursued.

A little farther up the road, the man lost control of his automobile, which became stuck in a small roadside ditch.

The individual in the automobile attempted to flee on foot, but police apprehended him 300 meters later. He identified himself as Anamere George.

His passport had expired four years before the Covid-19 epidemic, just before the outbreak.

According to authorities, a search of his criminal record revealed that he had sold cocaine in Cherng Talay, Kamala, and Patong.

Police discovered at least eight little pouches of cocaine during a search of Ananare’s home in Moo 4, Bang Jo, Srisoonthorn.

Officers also discovered many keys to other people’s homes.

Ananare was taken to Cherng Talay Police Station for questioning and restitution for the damage he caused to other people’s cars while escaping police.

Police did not say whether Ananare was tested to see if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his arrest.

Anamere was accused of overstaying his visa and unlawful narcotics possession and would be deported after legal proceedings, according to Pol. Col Sukchai.

Thanes stated that the crackdown on overstayers began last month and would continue this month with the assistance of tourist police.
