Nigerian Sentenced To Jail For Armed Robbery In Ghana

Stanley Afaku, a 36-year-old Nigerian, has been sentenced to a 10-year prison term for committing armed robbery at Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, Ghana.

The Sekondi Circuit Court, under the oversight of Her Honour Naa Amberley Akowuah, convicted Afaku after he admitted guilt to the robbery charge.

In addition to his imprisonment, the court mandated that the Ghana Immigration Service deport Afaku once he finishes serving his sentence.

Afaku’s partner in crime, Samuel Nickson, also known as Egya Acquah, pleaded not guilty to the robbery charge and was held in police custody. Nickson, already facing a separate robbery charge, is set to appear in court again on June 24, 2025.

Superintendent Olivia Awurabena Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in the Western Region, stated in a press release that the robbery occurred on February 23, 2025, when Afaku and Nickson assaulted Nash Arthur, a hospital security guard, at gunpoint.

They restrained him using his own shirt and stole his mobile phone before advancing to the hospital’s Out-Patient Department (OPD) pharmacy, where they took a Flat-screen television.

Following intelligence efforts, Afaku was apprehended on June 4, 2025, in the Esiama Bafana ghetto.

He admitted to the crime and identified Nickson as his accomplice.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
