A nine-year-old girl named Rumaisa Sadiq is alleged to have been raped by to death by Manniru Mai, a chemist operator at Jaba in Fanisau, Unogo Local Government Area, Kano State.
It was learnt that the incident occurred when the victim’s father brought her to a pharmacy to get medication for malaria.
Justice would be served, according to Kano State Commissioner of Women Affairs, Disabled and Children, Hajiya Aisha Lawan Saji Rano, who verified the victim’s death in a statement.
Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration would pursue the case to serve as a deterrent to others, the Commissioner stated in a statement issued through her Director of Public Enlightenment, Aishatu Haruna.
“Despite moves by some individuals to infuse diverters into the reported case of a fatal rape against nine year old Rumaisa Sadiq, the Commissioner insisted that there must be justice for the late victim and her family,” the statement read.
Speaking during a condolence visit to the family house of the victim, the Commissioner said, “there must be justice for the little girl who lost her life simply because someone chose to display his animalistic instinct on her
“In fact, full and quick dispensation of justice in this case is necessary in order to serve as lesson and deterrence to others like this grown up person that carried out this merciless act against an innocent nine year old girl.
“The Kano State Government under the justice-loving Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will follow up the case in court to a conclusive end.
“It could however be recalled that Rumaisa was allegedly r@ped by the owner of a chemist where she was taken to by her father for treatment against malaria.”
The founder of the Hidayah Ahmad VVF Aid Foundation, Hajiya Nafisa Salisu Ahmad, informed the incident’s commissioner that the issue was already in court and that other human rights organisations were becoming concerned.
In addition, Hajiya Nafisa commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Honourable Aisha Saji Rano for their ongoing efforts in the fight against injustice and inhumanity, accompanying the Commissioner’s delegation to the victim’s home.
The victim’s father, Alhaji Sadiq, was present to meet the group and conveyed his satisfaction with the Commissioner’s efforts and the Governor’s worries.
The bereaved mother who is yet to recover from the shock of the unfortunate incident, thanked Governor Kabir Yusuf and Honourable Aisha Saji Rano for making efforts to comfort the family and to assure them of injustice.
