NURTW Warns Drivers Against Drink-driving

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has called on its members not to drink or use telephones while driving as this could lead to road accidents or deaths which are usually on the rise at the end of the year.

The President of the NURTW, Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa, said this during a nationwide tour of branches of the union.

While touring Lagos on Thursday, Baruwa said, “We have to sanitise our motor parks very well, we have been hearing a lot of unpleasant things in the media about drivers.

“Drivers have to be careful when driving, and obey traffic laws. They should refrain from drinking alcohol while driving. They should also avoid making use of their phones while driving. They have to be cautious of these things especially in these ember months.”

NURTW Agnesisika blogThe NURTW president said the union has a cordial relationship with both the federal and state governments and he would want to keep things that way.

“We are not against the government of the day, whatever they want is what we want and I can tell you as the president of this union there is no problem between us and the Federal Government,” he said.

Baruwa also called on drivers to improve themselves either by way of education or by learning new skills so they don’t put all their eggs in one basket.

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
