October 1st: Weekly Football News Catch Up: Kylian Mbappe Becomes Highest Earning Footballer; Chelsea Advances To Sign Nkuku; Gabriel Jesus Reveals Why He Left Man City; Others

Kylian Mbappe Overtakes Messi And Ronaldo To Become World’s Highest Footballer.

Kylian Mbappe, a forward for Paris Saint-Germain, has already passed both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on the list of the world’s most paid footballers.

Mbappe now makes more than £116 million a year.

Messi and Ronaldo were listed as the two most paid football players on Forbes’ annual list of wealthy athletes, which was released earlier this year.

However, things appear to be about to change in 2023.

Ronaldo of Manchester United (£104.9m) is now in second place, followed by Messi (£102.1m), a teammate of Mbappe.

Ronaldo reportedly declined a chance to sign with Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal this summer, which would have virtually doubled his yearly income.

Many will be shocked by Mbappe’s new position as the highest-earning football player in the world because of his recently signed huge new contract at PSG.

Erik ten Hag And Marcus Rashford Named Premier League Manager And Player Of The Month.

The Premier League’s September Manager and Player of the Month awards have been given to Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, and forward Marcus Rashford.

September saw United triumph in both of its Premier League games, defeating Leicester City 1-0 at the King Power Stadium on September 1 and Arsenal 3-1 three days later at Old Trafford.

Rashford, who usually plays on the left wing, scored two goals and provided two assists in each of the victories.

Rashford has benefited from the adjustment to becoming United’s striker and has helped Jadon Sancho and Antony, two of his front-three teammates.

It remains to be seen whether the adjustment will work for him permanently, but for games like the one coming up against Manchester City, the plan will probably remain the same.

Rashford is once again playing in a formation that caters to his talents of attacking teams in transition as United sits deeper and makes use of the space behind the opposition defence.

Chelsea Conducts Medicals To Sign Christopher Nkunku For RB Leipzig.

Christopher Nkunku, a forward for RB Leipzig, has completed a medical with Chelsea officials in preparation for a potential transfer.

According to The UK Telegraph, the transfer is ongoing but has not yet been completed.

Chelsea is keeping an eye on a number of forwards, including Nkunku, as new co-owner Todd Boehly is eager to keep spending.

Todd Boehly wants to compete for Premier League and Champions League titles and is willing to back Chelsea’s manager, Graham Potter, with the team to do so.

Despite having already had a medical with the Blues, it is believed that no agreement has been made for the 24-year-old forward.

There is currently no guarantee that a move will ever truly take place.

Chelsea carried out a medical on the player to decide whether to pursue a transfer in 2023 when a £58 million release clause in his contract would become activated.

Why I Left Manchester City” – Gabriel Jesus.

Gabriel Jesus, a striker for Arsenal, has revealed why he left Manchester City for Arsenal during the 2022 summer.

The 25-year-old stated that he needed a change after five years playing for Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

The Brazilian believes that playing for Mikel Arteta at the Emirates makes him feel “free.”

This summer, Jesus moved from City to the Gunners for an initial fee of £45 million.

He frequently served as a wide forward under Guardiola, with a false nine taking up the position at the far end of the field.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Gabriel Jesus said, “The thing was the way [Guardiola] understands football and what he wanted.

“Then it was up to you to accept it or not. If you don’t accept it, ‘thank you’ and let’s go for another challenge.

“I accepted it for a while, but there came a moment when I said: ‘I want another thing for myself.’ I thanked him, ‘thanks for everything,’ he understood, and we moved on.

“It is different here at Arsenal. The football is different — different players, different ways to play.

“At City, it was different. The striker didn’t touch the ball that much, you see this by watching the games. And, when it was time to touch the ball, it was not the striker, because [Guardiola] ended up putting a midfielder to come closer. OK, fine. So, I decided to change.”

Mikel Obi Announces Retirement From Professional Football.

John Mikel Obi, a former midfielder for the Super Eagles and Chelsea, has ended his 20-year career in sports.

The former captain of the Nigerian national team announced his retirement from professional football on Instagram on September 27, 2022.

The professional football player, born on April 22, 1987, began his career as a defensive midfielder.

Mikel started his career with the local team, Plateau United, before switching to the Norwegian club Lyn in 2004 when he was 17 years old.

He then completed a contentious transfer to English team, Chelsea, in 2006 after Manchester United allegedly claimed to have already signed him.

He spent 11 years with Chelsea before departing for China in 2017 with Tianjin TEDA. He spent two years in China then returned to England on a temporary deal with Middlesbrough before joining Trabzonspor on a free transfer in July 2019 and moving to Stoke City in August 2020.

He played 91 times for Nigeria throughout the course of a 14-year international career, between 2005 and 2019, and scored six goals.

In a post on Instagram, Mikel Obi wrote, “There is a saying that “all good things must come to an end”, and for my professional football career, that day is today.

“I look back at the past 20 years of my career, and I must say that I am very satisfied with all that I was able to achieve and more importantly the human it has helped shape.

“All of this would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my family, managers, clubs, coaches, teammates and most importantly my ever-loyal fans. You supported me through my highs and lows, even on days that I did not live up to your expectations. I say a big thank you.

“I will also like to encourage everyone who I may have inspired one way or the other in the course of my career to never give up on their dreams, for every time you think about quitting, remind yourself why you started.

“This is not goodbye, it’s the start of another journey, another chapter of my life. I look forward to what the future holds and I hope you will walk with me. Thank you.”

Super Eagles Loses 2-1 To Algeria.

Algeria’s Desert Foxes defeated the Super Eagles 2-1 in a friendly match on Tuesday in Oran.

Terem Moffi scored after a deflected Kelechi Ihenacho shot in the box to give Nigeria the lead.

The Jose Peseiro team, which was dominant in the first half, had a few more chances to double their lead but failed to deliver.

However, in the 40th minute, Ola Aina caused a penalty, which Manchester City striker Riyahd Mahrez converted from the spot to tie the game.

Youcef Atal then scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute, stretching Algeria’s unbeaten streak to six matches.

The Super Eagles have now gone four games without a win over the Desert.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
