Ondo Court Bars Man From Sleeping At Ex-wife’s Family House

An Akure Magistrate’s Court has issued a restraining order against Mr. Ademola Adesina, prohibiting him from loitering or spending the night at the family home of his estranged wife, Mrs. Iyabo Omoleye.

The order was granted after Omoleye approached the court, claiming that her husband had neglected his duties toward their children and had been abusive during their marriage.

She revealed that Adesina had abandoned the family for over six months and only returned to forcibly assert his rights over the children, despite his extended absence and failure to provide support.

According to her, the respondent had consistently refused to provide for the children, allegedly stating he derived no personal benefit from doing so.

She further accused him of reappearing only to harass her and linger around her family home, where she currently lives with the children.

In his defense, Adesina presented a different narrative, telling the court that harmony once prevailed in their home until he was imprisoned.

Upon regaining his freedom, he claimed to have discovered his wife three months pregnant, an alleged pregnancy she later terminated, raising suspicions of infidelity during his incarceration.

He further alleged that his wife ridiculed his sexual performance, unfavorably comparing him to her supposed lovers.

Adesina claimed he was now homeless and unemployed, stating that his wife had taken over their apartment’s rent and subsequently evicted him.

The man lamented that he had since been left with no choice but to sleep at the doorstep of his wife’s family house.

He also claimed that his children had been manipulated and now hardly recognized him as their father.

Ruling on the matter, Hon. Justice A.E Akeredolu advised Adesina to focus on rebuilding his life and finding a source of income, rather than returning to the wife’s family house premises.

“The respondent is hereby restrained from going to sleep in the wife’s family house premises,” the court ruled.

“The issue of access to and maintenance of the children will be decided on the next adjournment date.

Despite the clear directive, Adesina maintained that he had nowhere else to go and would remain at the location.

In response, the court warned that any defiance of the order would attract severe consequences.

The case was adjourned till July 1 for further hearing.
