Social media influencer Mukoro Michelle, popularly known as King Mitchy, has revealed what she described as the response of the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, following the backlash that trailed her recent comment about the monarch.
The controversy began after King Mitchy celebrated receiving endorsements from prominent figures for her charity work, including the traditional ruler.
She had earlier announced that she renovated a school in Delta State and claimed that the Ooni personally commended her efforts. To support her claim, she shared a screenshot of a chat allegedly showing the monarch praising her initiative.
However, the post sparked criticism after she referred to the monarch as “even this king,” a phrase many considered disrespectful toward one of Nigeria’s most highly regarded traditional rulers. The comment drew widespread reactions, with several social media users accusing her of lacking cultural respect and sensitivity.
Social critic VeryDarkMan also weighed in on the issue, describing her remark as disrespectful and questioning how someone seeking recognition from respected figures could appear to downplay their status. His reaction triggered a heated exchange between both personalities, further drawing attention to the controversy.
Amid the growing backlash, King Mitchy later returned to Instagram with an update, stating that the Ooni had personally intervened and advised critics to go easy on her over the matter.
Taking to the insta-stories section of her official Instagram page, King Mitchy wrote, “The king has said you guys should leave me alone… that I am still a young girl… never knew how important he was before today… so generous and kind hearted.”
