Organ Harvesting: Federal Court Orders For The Release Of Bio-data Of Ekweremadu’s Alleged Victim

A federal high court in Abuja has ordered the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to send the Attorney General of the Federation the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the biodata of an alleged teenager involved in the organ harvesting case against former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, in the United Kingdom.

In order to properly defend Ekweremadu in the UK, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, had pleaded with Justice Inyang Ekwo on June 27 to order the release of specific official documents of Ukpo registered with NIMC, the Nigerian Immigration Service, and Stanbic-IBTC Bank.

In today’s hearings, NIMC’s attorney, Muazu Mohammed, informed the court that the Commission is prohibited from disclosing an individual’s biodata to a private person by the terms of its engagement.

According to the NIMC law, he continued, the AGF should receive such information first.

Awomolo did not object to Mohammed’s submission, noting that the AGF maintains diplomatic relations with UK authorities.

The NIMC was then instructed to give the AGF access to the victim’s information or biodata, which is in the Commission’s control, so that it may be forwarded to the appropriate UK courts.
