Oyo State Police Command Denies Assassination Attempts On Peter Obi

The Oyo State police command has denied allegations that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate and a former governor of Anambra State, was the target of an assassination attempt at his campaign rally last week at the Lekan Salami Adamasingba Stadium.

Remember that a man was caught carrying a dagger at the rally on November 23.

Adewale Osifeso, the state police command’s spokesperson, claimed in a statement that while it was true that Lateef Wasiu was detained by police officers stationed at the event for having a hidden weapon double-faced jackknife—placed inside of his suit in violation of the 2022 Electoral Act and other governing laws—it was not in connection with any assassination.

Osifeso informed the public that, contrary to widespread belief, Mr. Obi was not the target of an assassination attempt and cautioned them against believing false information that would jeopardize national security.

While the state police command advised the leadership of political parties in the state to persuade their supporters to refrain from approaching election sites with dangerous objects in an effort to enforce dominance, he also issued a warning that “the command would deal decisively with defaulters through appropriate sanctions in strict accordance with the laws of the land.”

The accused has been charged to court to give an explanation for his actions, according to the police spokesman.

He said, “Further updates would be provided accordingly, please.”
