Parents Of Children Hawking During School Hours To Be Arrested

Dr Eric Odo, Chairman of Enugu State’s Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, has pledged to arrest parents whose children or wards are caught hawking things during school hours.

Speaking on Monday, Nov. 25, at the inauguration of the council area’s Public School Supervision Committee (PSSC), Ogbede, Odo stated that he would try his best to reposition public schools in the council area as a plan to eradicate out-of-school syndrome.

Odo charged the PSSC with ensuring that out-of-school children were enrolled back in school, adding that the council would provide uniforms, backpacks, sandals, and other items required to achieve this goal.

Odo stated that there was no reason for any child not to attend school.

“Children must go back to school and school must return to what it was. We will treat any sick child and provide one meal per day for pupils, if need be,” he said.

He then warned that parents who send their children to hawk when they should be in school would face legal consequences.
