Pastor Arrested For Threatening To Kidnap Someone Over A Huge Sum Of Money

A clergyman in Adamawa State was taken into custody after he threatened to kidnap someone if they did not give him N1 million.

In an apparent effort to instil fear in his target, Pastor Joel Saul, 30, of the ECWA Church Kwanan Kuka, Ngurore, in the Yola South local government area, allegedly wrote a letter to his intended victim claiming to be the leader of kidnappers in the region.

Joel Saul demanded N1 million in a two-page letter addressed to Oliver Mamza from Sengere, close to Ngurore, on the Yola-Numan road.

In the letter, he made it clear that if Mamza didn’t make good on his promise, he would abduct and possibly kill Mamza.

The pastor confessed to writing the letter in his statement to the police, but he insisted he didn’t intend what he wrote.

“Yes, I’m the author of the contents of the letter but I have regretted my action. It is a big mistake I have ever made in my life, being ignorant of the implications of writing such a letter,” he confessed.

He stated that this was something he had never done before and that it had really embarrassed him.

He said, “The shameful thing has already happened; I have now lost my integrity being a Pastor leading a congregation and telling them what to do, and today I was caught in the act which goes contrary to my preaching.”

He also asked for forgiveness from his church members in a letter he wrote to them.

Speaking about the situation, Adamawa State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, stated that on September 5, 2022, Oliver Mamza complained to the state Police Command that his life was in danger because of the letter Joel Saul had sent to him.

According to Nguroje, the state Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande, assigned the officer who headed a team of investigators that identified and apprehended Saul.
