Following the church’s 21-day fast, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the founder and head minister of Salvation Ministries in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, has forbidden his adherents from exercising their right to marriage for a beneficial reason.
The Pastor announced the church’s 2023 Sunday Thanksgiving service.
In the church, married couples are required to postpone consummating their sxual relations until the 21 days of spiritual fasting are through. Pastor Ibiyeomie stated that sxual activity would not be permitted during the fasting period and that three weeks of s*x-free living would not be fatal to anyone.
The pastor read 1 Corinthians 7:5 as a verse he advised the couples to consider, citing Scripture to support his assertions.
Pastor Ibiyeomi quoted from the Bible, which is as follows: “The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, – 1 Corinthians 7:5”.
Couples who believe they can break their fast with food and s*xual activity for the day were further urged to steer clear. Pastor Ibiyeomi claims that people with this mindset are those who want to pervert the Bible to satisfy their carnal desires.
“Abstain from s*x this fasting season because I’ve heard people say, ‘My husband said that once we break since we eat food, we should eat this one too’! So, ah! I’ve heard it!
“As a pastor, they say please talk to my husband that we are fasting,” Pastor Ibiyeomie said.
Well, 21 days is not too long to abstain from s*x just to be in a place of fasting and prayer. It’s a sacrifice that is worth it.
