In an extortion case that targeted World Cup champion and former Manchester United star; Paul Pogba, five people alongside Pogba’s brother will go on trial, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.
Following an inquiry into whether Paul Pogba was the victim of extortion by his brother; Mathias Pogba, and childhood pals, the office said a judge ordered the six individuals to appear before a court. Mathias Pogba, 34, was sentenced to stand trial “for the offences of attempted extortion and criminal conspiracy,” according to the prosecutor’s office.
The date of the court hearing is unknown. The five other people, who are only known by their first names, allegedly threatened to blackmail the France midfield player and sought €13 million from him after he rose to prominence on the international scene.
They are charged with criminal conspiracy, extortion, and attempted extortion involving the use of force, kidnapping, and incarceration to further a crime or misdemeanor.
Paul Pogba testified throughout the investigation that he gave the organized group, which included his brother, €100,000. The 31-year-old athlete reportedly informed authorities that the suspected extortionists intended to tarnish him by stating that he requested that a witch doctor cast a spell on teammate Kylian Mbappe.
These accusations were reported by French media. The accusation was refuted by Paul Pogba.
Paul Pogba was once regarded as one of the best midfield players in the world, but in recent years, his personal issues have garnered more attention than his skill on the pitch.
He tested positive for testosterone while at Juventus earlier this year, and the Italian anti-doping court banned him for a maximum of four years. He has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland. Paul Pogba was renowned for his physicality, flexibility, and goal-scoring ability.
Mathias Pogba posted threats on social media to share “explosive” revelations about his brother, Paul Pogba’s agent Rafaela Pimenta, and Mr Mbappe. Mathias Pogba was also a footballer who spent most of his career with lower-tier teams in Europe. Once one of the world’s top midfielders, Paul Pogba has made the headlines more often for his off-field problems than for his football brilliance in recent years.
