Peter Obi Affirms Respect For Tinubu

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), asserts that he respects President Bola Tinubu and that he will never use personal insults against him.

At the 2026 All Nigeria Editors’ Conference in Enugu, which had as its theme “The Ballot, the Media and the Task of Keeping Democracy Alive,” Peter Obi made this statement on Friday, September 25. Africans and the Diaspora

He stressed that rather than focusing on personal attacks, political discussions and disputes should only address public policy and leadership effectiveness.

“I cannot abuse any governor. I cannot abuse anybody in government. I don’t need to abuse people even in the federal government. I’ve never abused anybody. Who has seen me calling President Tinubu’s name? Never! I will not do that. He’s the President of the country, he has all my respect,”

Politics should never make us lose respect for one another. Even when we disagree, we can express our views without disrespecting our elders or anyone else. Respect and civility should remain important beyond the political arena.
