Peter Obi Mourns Doyin Okupe

Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential contender in the 2023 election, has conveyed profound grief regarding the demise of Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson and prominent political personality.

Okupe, who once acted as the Director-General of Obi’s presidential campaign, passed away in a Lagos hospital after a period of cancer remission. He was 72.

A seasoned political tactician, Okupe served as the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

In 2024, he stepped down from the LP due to ideological disparities and subsequently drew scrutiny for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s economic strategies.

Addressing the development on Friday, Obi portrayed Okupe as a fervent champion for an improved Nigeria.

“With great sadness this morning, I received the shocking news of the death of my dear elder brother, Dr. Doyin Okupe,” Obi wrote on his X handle.

“His death is a profound loss – not only to his family and loved ones but to all of us. I would therefore like to urge members of the Obidient Movement and other groups to pray for the eternal repose of Dr. Okupe’s soul and to remember his family during these trying times.”

Obi offered prayers for Okupe’s everlasting peace and extended sympathies to his family, encouraging them to draw resilience during this challenging time.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
