Philippines Reports Two New Cases Of Monkey Pox

According to the Health Ministry’s announcement on Monday, the Philippines has recorded two further instances of Monkey pox, increasing the total number of active cases to three nationwide this year.

Two males in their mid-30s are involved in the latest cases; one of them is from Manila, the nation’s capital, according to local network ABS-CBN News.

“MPXV Clade II, the milder form of the Monkey Pox virus, is present in both cases,” a Department of Health spokesman Albert Domingo stated. Just this week, the Philippines announced the first incidence of mpox for the year. The nation has had a total of 12 instances since July 2022.

Mappox has been deemed a “public health emergency of international concern” by the World Health Organization (WHO). More than a dozen African nations have reported outbreaks of the disease since the start of 2024, with the Democratic Republic of the Congo accounting for more than 90% of cases.

The “clade 2” form, which caused the global outbreak that started in 2022, is thought to be less lethal and more infectious than the variety that is common in Africa.

Previously referred to as monkeypox, mpox is a virus that is transmitted by intimate contact and contaminated objects including clothing, linens, and needles, according to the WHO.
