Police Arrest Father For Chaining His 6-Year-Old Son In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested Mamuda Abubakar for allegedly chaining his 6-year-old son inside a room at their home in the Giade Local Government Area of the state.

SP Ahmed Mohammed, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the event in a statement on Monday, July 8, saying that the police received a report of child abuse on Sunday and quickly despatched a team of detectives to the area to rescue the victim.

The PPRO stated that the suspect and the minor’s mother separated five years ago.

Abubakar said that he advised the child to visit his grandfather’s house since the child there lacked morality, but when he insisted on coming, the suspect became enraged and chained the minor.

“On 07 July 2024, a report of child abuse was received by the command. The report indicates that on 06 July 2024, at about 1720hrs, one Mamuda Abubakar, a 30-year-old resident of Abbo, Chinkani Ward, Giade LGA, Bauchi State, tied his biological son, Adamu Mamuda alias Jumba, aged 6 years old, with a chain inside a room at their residence,” the statement read.

“Upon receiving the information, a team of detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene of the reported incident. The child was successfully rescued, and the suspect, Mamuda Abubakar, was effectively arrested and is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), state headquarters in Bauchi.

“According to the suspect, he confined the minor to prevent him from going to his maternal grandfather’s house.

“The suspect and the minor’s mother separated five years ago, and the mother has since remarried and no longer lives with her father. He explained that his son should not visit the grandfather’s house due to the lack of morality among the children there

“When the son insisted on going, the suspect became furious and ultimately chained the minor

“The Bauchi State Police Command remains committed to the protection of all citizens, especially vulnerable children. We urge the public to report any incidents of abuse or maltreatment to the nearest police station.”

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
