Police Arrest International Car Thief, Recover Anti-Tracker Jammer

A suspected international autothief has been taken into custody by Kaduna state police.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, stated in a statement made public on Friday, May 31, that on May 27, a Good Samaritan gave the police information indicating that he had been asked to help retrieve a Lexus LX470 SUV from a mechanic.

According to Hassan, after looking over the car, the Good Samaritan thought it might be stolen and quickly called the police.

‘’Following the report, the vehicle was recovered and brought to S/Gari police station. A search was conducted, leading to the discovery of vehicle particulars bearing the name of the owner, along with his contact number. When contacted, the owner recounted that the car was snatched from him at gunpoint by five armed men at his residence in Utako, Abuja.

“Subsequently, the police mobilized surveillance and managed to arrest the suspect, identified as Mubarak Kabiru from Kano, along Alkali Road, Kaduna. A search of his room at Ishacool Hotel, Kabala Doki, Kaduna, resulted in the recovery of an anti-tracking jammer.”

According to the police spokesperson, Mubarak Kabiru admitted during questioning that he had been carrying stolen cars from Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Abuja using a jammer to stop the vehicles from being tracked down at the behest of his boss, Dauda from the Niger Republic.

Kabiru further informed the police that the stolen cars were sold in the Niger Republic after being transported to border towns via Sokoto and Katsina.

The police spokesperson went on to say that the accomplices are still evading capture.

According to him, the suspect has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Division (SCID) in order to conduct additional research.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
