Police Arrest Suspected Car Thieves, Reject N1m Bribe In Katsina

Officers from the Katsina State Police Command have detained two individuals suspected of stealing a car and declined a N1m bribe intended to secure their release.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, revealed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, noting that the suspects, Mubarak Kabir and Adamu Hashim, were apprehended with a stolen vehicle during a standard patrol in Birnin Kuka village, Mashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

“The Katsina State Police Command officers successfully arrested two (2) suspected car thieves, rejected a one million naira (N1,000,000) bribe, and recovered a suspected stolen motor vehicle among other exhibits,” the statement read.

“On April 11th, 2025, at about 1500 hrs, while on a routine patrol along Birnin Kuka village, Mashi LGA, Katsina State, officers attached to Border Patrol Zone 4, Katsina, stopped a Toyota Corolla LE, green colour, driven by one (1) Mubarak Kabir, m, age 26, and (2) Adamu Hashim, m, age 27, all of Kurna quarters, Fagge LGA, Kano State.

“During the initial investigation, it was discovered that the aforementioned vehicle was reportedly stolen from FCT Abuja. The suspects then attempted to bribe the patrol team with one million naira (N1,000,000) in cash to avoid prosecution, an offer the officers firmly refused. The suspects remain in custody.

“Additionally, the suspected stolen motor vehicle, a cash sum of N1,000,000, three (3) mobile phones, one power bank, and a set of keys were seized from the suspects as evidence.

“Investigations are underway to determine the full scope of the suspects’ involvement in criminal activities. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, psc, fdc, praised the officers’ dedication to upholding the law and demonstrating exemplary integrity.

“He further reaffirms the commitment and dedication of the Command towards protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Katsina State while maintaining a high level of integrity and respect for human rights.”
