Police Arrest Thieves Specialized In Stealing Tricycle Passengers’ Phones

Members of a group that specialises in stealing the phones of unsuspecting tricycle passengers in Asaba, the state capital, have been apprehended by the Delta State Police Command.

A spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, released a statement on March 25 at approximately 6.15 p.m., stating that Ezeugwu Akanso’s’ reported at ‘A’ division Asaba that on the same date at approximately 5 p.m., he boarded a commercial tricycle with registration number GWK 758 VC and Delta State code number 12335B at Konwea Plaza Nnebisi Road Asaba to Okpanam Road Asaba. He added that he discovered his phone had been taken, so he set off an alarm, requiring supporters to follow him in order to pursue the suspects who had been captured.

‘’The suspects, one Collins Akpinoba ‘m’ age 27yrs conspired with one David Paulson ‘m’ age 38yrs were immediately handed over to the Police. Preliminary investigation revealed that both suspects specialize in robbing unsuspecting passengers and some of their victims have identified them. An investigation is ongoing,” Edafe said.

In a related incident, on March 27 at approximately 6 p.m., the Agbor division Anti-Crime Patrol Team stopped and searched a 25-year-old Ekuku-Agbor local named John Chikwuji “m” as he was returning from Agbor to the Ekuku-Agbor community.

One Beretta handgun was found after the suspect was searched, according to Edafe. The inquiry is still on. He continued by saying that the state’s commissioner of police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, HAS RESURRECTED that the Command’s main objective is to combat criminal activity. He issues a warning to all criminals, telling them that the entire force of the law will be applied to them if they do not desist from their illicit actions. He goes on to reassure that every effort is being made by the command to address the serious societal issues and negative effects of violent crimes.
