The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its ban on the involvement of the Amotekun Corps and other non-state security groups in security duties related to the Osun State Governorship Election.
Additionally, the police announced a movement restriction across the state starting from midnight on Friday, August 14, 2026, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Anietie Iniedu, emphasized that only security agencies recognized and established under Nigeria’s laws are authorized to carry out law enforcement and security functions during the election.
The police warned that no non-state security groups, vigilante groups, or unapproved organizations are permitted to assume or carry out security roles. They were directed to stay away from election-related security activities and avoid any actions that could intimidate voters, disrupt the electoral process, or threaten public peace and safety.
Members of the public are urged to fully comply with the movement restrictions and cooperate with security personnel deployed across the state. Only individuals and activities explicitly exempted by authorities will be allowed to operate during this period.
The police also called on political parties, candidates, supporters, and stakeholders to conduct themselves responsibly and peacefully, warning against any conduct that could incite violence or interfere with the electoral process.
Reaffirming their commitment to peace and security, the Force assured residents of their readiness to ensure a fair and secure election environment. They also encouraged citizens to remain calm, law-abiding, and to promptly report any suspicious or unlawful activities to the appropriate security agencies.
