Police Interrogate Officers Seen Manhandling Civilian In Abia

The Abia State Police Command has begun an investigation in response to the spread of a video on Facebook depicting police personnel reportedly abusing a civilian. The event, which apparently occurred on February 20 on Lagos Street in Umuahia, instantly received attention on social media.

In a statement issued on Friday, February 21, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, revealed that the officers involved have been identified and are being probed at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia.

“The Abia State Police Command is aware of a trending video on Facebook depicting some police officers manhandling a civilian. The incident is alleged to have occurred along Lagos Street, Umuahia on 20/02/2025,” the statement read. “The officers involved have been identified and are currently under interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The public will be updated after necessary administrative actions are taken against the erring officers.”

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, denounced the officers’ conduct, calling them a violation of professional norms and a disdain for the public’s dignity. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that officers under his command follow the rule of law and treat the public with dignity.

“He reiterates that under his leadership, the command is committed to ensuring a professionally competent, rule of law-compliant, and people-friendly police force in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police,” the statement concluded.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
