Pope Leo XIV has declared that he will have surgery in the next few days to remove a nodule that was found in his lung during recent medical exams. He claims that the growth was found early on and is well localized.
The Pope revealed this on Sunday while speaking to the faithful assembled for the Angelus prayer, according to Vatican News. He added that his doctors had advised surgery, and he had chosen to heed their advice.
“Dear friends, during some recent health examinations, doctors found a localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well localized,” he said.
“The doctors believe surgery is appropriate. Following their advice, I have therefore decided to undergo an operation to remove it. The operation is already scheduled for the coming days,” the Pope added
He thanked the faithful for their support and prayers, saying, “I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.”
A lung nodule is a small growth in the lung that is often found during imaging tests; many are benign, though doctors may recommend further evaluation or removal. We wish Pope Leo XIV a smooth procedure and a quick, full recovery.
