Poultry Attendants Arraigned For Stealing 628 Chickens In Ibadan

On Monday, May 18, ten individuals, including farm workers Ibrahim Yalmi, 23, and Samuel David, 24, were brought before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, accused of stealing chickens valued at N4.3 million.

The other defendants included Kurewen Amadi, 29; Paul Gagiso, 35; Afose Assogbari, 30; Monica John, 28; Cecilia Philip, 30; Tusen Jebete, 50; Hannah Dele, 25; and John Agosu, 28.

They faced charges of conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen chickens.

All defendants entered a not guilty plea to the charges.

Insp. Adeshina Folaranmi, the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that the alleged crimes took place between June 2024 and May 2025 at V Tees Farm in the Badeku area of Ibadan.

Folaranmi claimed that Yalmi and David, employed as farm attendants, stole 628 chickens worth N4.3 million from the farm.

He further alleged that the other eight defendants purchased the chickens from Yalmi and David at significantly reduced prices compared to their original value.

He stated that these eight defendants were aware that the chickens had been stolen by Yalmi and David.

Folaranmi noted that the offenses violate sections 516, 390(9), and 427 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Magistrate Mrs. Oluwabusayo Osho granted bail to each defendant in the amount of N2 million, requiring two sureties each for the same amount.

Osho stipulated that one surety must have N2 million in a bank account, and one must be a relative sharing the same surname as the defendant.

She scheduled the next hearing for June 4.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
