Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has agreed that his country would not join NATO, which was one of Russia’s objectives before the invasion.

According to a translation of his remarks made via video screen at a meeting of the leaders of the United Kingdom’s Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) in London on Tuesday morning, March 15, Zelensky conceded that Ukraine’s NATO membership would not materialize.

Trukha, a Ukrainian media outlet, quoted Zelenskyy as saying, “For years we’ve heard the opposite, open doors, However, it is not.

“Our people understand this, and we are beginning to count on our own strength,” he continued.

According to Nexta, another Ukrainian news outlet, Zelensky said “We realized that Ukraine will not become a member of NATO. We understand this, we are adequate people.

“Kyiv needs new formats of interaction with the West and separate security guarantees.”

It is now 20 days since Russia decided to invade Ukraine. The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine on the 24th of February with the purpose to ‘denazify’ the nation.

The attack was provoked by the Ukraine President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s decision to join NATO.

The invasion has lasted longer than the Russian military expected as the Ukrainians have waged strong resistance against the advancement of the Russian troops towards Kyiv, it’s capital.

However, Ukraine has called for help from NATO countries as its military strength is not enough to defend its nation against its adversary which is known to have the 2nd strongest military power with its highly sophisticated nuclear weapons better than that of the USA, which is the reason for NATO’s distance from any involvement in the war.
