Presidential Candidates Announced In January – Wike

Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has said he will announce his presidential candidate in January 2023.

The governor, who said so on Thursday, said he would also promote his accepted candidate nationally.

“From next January, I will stand up for the people to vote,” Wike said as he commissioned his administration’s 10th flyover in the Obio-Akpol local government area on the river.

“Well then, everyone who was nervous and said various things and called my name, please wait. January has come. “Not just telling them (my people) who to vote for, but going from state to state (for a campaign) and why they should vote for that person, nothing happens. Let’s go,’ he said.

After his PDP’s presidential primary in May, Wike was at odds with Atiku Abubakar over the presidency for Iyorkia Ayu.

After the presidential primary, his former vice president Atiku overtook his closest rival in the primary, and the Delta governor overtook Wike when he made Ifeanyi Okowa his running mate.

Wike, along with four other PDP governors known as the G5 or Integrity Group, argued that Benue-born Ayu must step down in favor of Southerners who support Atiku’s 2023 ambitions.

In early December, Atiku’s campaign director, Sokoto state governor Aminu Tambwal, visited Benue state governor Samuel Ortom, one of Wike’s allies and G5 members, to resolve the crisis, but was unsuccessful. was not achieved. Later that day, on Channels Television’s The People’s Townhall, Atiku said he had met with Wike five times to try to resolve the issue, but there was no end in sight. Ortom and Wike have since avoided his Atiku, who were in Benue for a campaign earlier this month.

Last month, Wike pledged logistical support to the campaign of Labor Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi. and his New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) counterpart Rabiu Kwankwaso. Wike has also recently worked with All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters such as Adams Osiomhall, Governor Dave Umahi (Ebony), Babajide Sanwooru (Lagos) and Ben Ayadeh (Cross River).

Wike and his allies do not support his Atiku, but it is not clear whether he will support Obi, Kwankwaso, or Bola Tinubu of APC in the battle over Aso Rock’s top job.
