Pro-Wike Rally In Bayelsa Postponed Amid Rising Political Tension

The political rally planned by The NEW Associates, originally set for Saturday, April 12 in Yenagoa, has been postponed to April 26, 2025. The announcement came on Friday, April 11, from George Turnah, MON, the event’s convener and head of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the group, during a press conference in Yenagoa.

The rally, perceived as a possible pro-Wike mobilization effort, was anticipated to make a notable political statement amid rising tensions in Bayelsa State. However, Turnah explained that conflicting events and deference to Ijaw leadership discussions prompted the rescheduling.

“Several Pro-Diri and Pro-Tambuwal groups have announced solidarity rallies for the same date and location we had initially planned for our inauguration,” Turnah said.

“As a peaceful and people-driven organization, we have decided to shift our event to allow these groups space to express themselves and to avoid any undue tension.”

The NEW Associates, identifying itself as a grassroots movement aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, has been active across the South-South region. Political observers see the group as part of a broader realignment in preparation for upcoming elections.

Turnah reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to national unity and progress, stating, “We believe that President Tinubu’s success is Nigeria’s success. Our movement is about development, peace, and empowerment—not division.”

He thanked stakeholders, patrons, and members of the movement for their ongoing support and encouraged continued enthusiasm as preparations proceed for the rescheduled rally.

“We urge our members and the good people of Bayelsa to keep the momentum alive as we work towards a successful and peaceful rally on April 26,” he added.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
