Promote Unity Not Division – Tinubu Tells Content Creators

President Bola Tinubu has encouraged young Nigerians engaged in digital media to utilize their platforms as tools for fostering national unity.

Addressing the audience at the launch of the Progressives Digital Media Summit, themed ‘Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development,’ the President highlighted the necessity of fact-checking information prior to sharing it widely.

He called on the youth to act as constructive agents for societal progress by establishing businesses that generate jobs and creating content that embodies unifying principles.

“I urge you to continue using digital platforms to advance our nation’s progress. Build businesses that employ others. Create content that uplifts and unites. Use your influence to foster unity, not division.

Your generation has recognised this moment. You are using digital tools to innovate, educate, and demand accountability. But as your influence grows, so must our collective sense of purpose and responsibility,” President Tinubu was quoted as saying in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The President praised the ingenuity and determination of Nigeria’s youth, noting that digital media serves as a catalyst for economic and social transformation, far beyond being a mere accessory to life.

“From developing innovative platforms to building vibrant online communities, you are demonstrating the determination that is redefining what is possible for this country.

You are not waiting for the future; you are building it. Digital media is now a central driver of economic growth, civic engagement, and social change. It broadens representation for those previously unheard.”

The President also affirmed that his administration is dedicated to promoting digital innovation through initiatives like the National Digital Innovation Fund and policies that cultivate a robust startup environment.

However, he cautioned practitioners to stay alert to the dangers of disinformation and cyber threats.

The summit’s convener, Segun Dada, noted that in less than ten years, digital media has transformed from a means of personal connection into a formidable force for communication, innovation, and influence.

Dada, also serving as the Special Assistant to the President on New Media, emphasized the need to leverage this power for Nigeria’s benefit while addressing inherent challenges such as privacy issues and risks to social cohesion.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
