Abimbolu Oliwafemi, a 38-year-old Cherubim and Seraphin prophet, has been arrested on charges of allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl.
The victim’s mother approached men at the Ijebu Igbo divisional police station, claiming that the cleric had duped her into believing he could perform a spiritual bath to prevent future misfortunes, but instead, he allegedly sexually assaulted her daughter by a river around 2:00 PM.
The Ogun State Police Command’s gender department promptly caught the suspect and scheduled a medical checkup at Medicare Hospital in Ijebu Igbo, providing the necessary documents for evidence gathering.
CSP Omolola Ofutola, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that allowed a self-proclaimed prophet to engage in unlawful relations with a minor, whose mother is also a member of his church, which has a congregation of about one hundred.
“Responses gathered from the child’s mother during the police inquiry highlight her apparent lack of awareness and naivety, as she entrusted her daughter’s care to a deceitful prophet. The Ogun State Police Command emphasizes the need for parents to protect their daughters from questionable male figures.” Odutola said.
