Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, has declared that he will be backing Vice President Kamala Harris in the next US election.
Speaking on Thursday, September 4, at an economic forum in the far-eastern city of Vladivostok, Putin stated that, in the wake of last month’s surprise attack, it is the “sacred duty” of the Russian army to use all available means to “throw the enemy (Ukraine) out” of the border area of Kursk and safeguard its population.
Regarding the approaching election in the United States, Putin said that it was ultimately “the choice of the American people” but asserted that Russia had supported Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
This occurs less than a day after the criminal charges and penalties were announced by the departments of Justice, State, and Treasury in response to what the Biden administration claimed were attempts by the Russian government to sway public opinion in the United States in advance of the November election.
“I told you, our favorite, if I may say so, was the current president, Mr. Biden,” Putin said with a smirk on his face. “He was removed from the race, but he advised all his supporters to support Ms. Harris. So we will do it as well, we will root for her,” he said, to applause from the audience.
“Secondly, she has such an expressive and infectious laugh that it means she is doing well,” Putin said, speaking of Harris.
“And if she is doing well, then … Trump introduced so many restrictions and sanctions against Russia, like no other president had ever introduced before him. And if Ms. Harris is doing well, perhaps she will refrain from doing anything like that,” he said.
Some viewers claim that Putin’s remark was sarcastic.
Many people believe that former President Donald Trump is the candidate of choice for the Kremlin. There are worries that Trump would pressure Kyiv into signing a peace accord that would suit Russia’s interests because he has frequently complimented Putin and declared that the conflict in Ukraine will end in a day.
