The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged Nigerian soldiers to uphold discipline, unity, and unwavering commitment to duty as they continue to defend the nation against evolving security threats. He made this call during a combined breaking of fast with Muslim and Christian officers and soldiers, emphasizing that the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent symbolizes shared virtues such as discipline, sacrifice, humility, compassion, and charity.
Shaibu stressed that Nigeria’s diversity in tribe and religion should be a source of strength, not division. He encouraged troops to translate the values of Ramadan and Lent into their professional duties, highlighting the importance of perseverance, patience, and self-control in the profession of arms.
The Army Chief reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and its commitment to defending Nigeria’s democracy, peace, and territorial integrity. He also paid tribute to officers and soldiers who paid the supreme price in defense of the country, assuring that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
Shaibu emphasized that the Nigerian Army exists because of the sacrifices and dedication of its soldiers, and officers’ responsibilities are tied directly to the commitment of troops.
