Referee Criticized After Decision In Chelsea Vs West Ham Match

Michael Owen, a former Liverpool striker, has slammed the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for overturning Maxwell Cornet’s goal against Chelsea on Saturday.

After hammering a stray ball past Eduoard Mendy, Cornet felt he had won a point for West Ham.

The VAR officials on duty, however, requested that referee Andrew Madley inspect the pitchside monitor.

Madley agreed that Bowen fouled Mendy before the ball reached Cornet and so ruled out the goal after reviewing the action that led to it.

According to Owen, who tweeted after the game, “The decision to rule out that West Ham goal is an absolute shocker.

“The GK dives at his feet, what’s he meant to do?”

Chelsea fell behind after Antonio’s goal before recovering to win 2-1 thanks to Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz’s goals.
