Relegation-Threatened Everton Sacks Manager Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard, the (former) manager of relegation-threatened Everton, has been fired after less than a year in command of the Goodison Park team, according to British media on Monday.

The former Chelsea manager was hired to succeed Rafael Benitez in January 2022. However, he leaves the team in 19th place in the standings, level on points with last-place Southampton.

Club directors were told to avoid Goodison Park earlier this month owing to alleged security dangers, an indication of the unrest engulfing Everton.

This comes after Everton’s ninth defeat in their last 12 Premier League games, as they suffered a humiliating 2-0 setback against struggling West Ham on Saturday.

After the game, the club owner Farhad Moshiri, who was in attendance at the London match, was asked by Sky Sports if Lampard should be fired.

He said, “I can’t comment. It’s not my decision.”

Speaking about his own future, Lampard said: “Those things are not my choice. It is my job to work, focus and keep my head down.

“I know there’s things going on at the club but it’s never been a consequence for me whether a chairman or board member is at the game.”
