Residents Of Ibadan Take To The Streets And Launch A “No Meter, No Payment” Campaign

Residents of Apete, Awotan, Araromi, Jeje, and Arola in Ido Local Government Area, as well as their counterparts from Ajibode, Masoke, and Laniba in Akinyele Local Government Area, Oyo State, are presently on the streets to commence a “no meter, no payment” campaign in support of the state government.

At the Awotan crossroads, according to a Daily Post correspondent, who is keeping track of the protest, the demonstration has been declared open.

According to the individuals, until they are metered, they will not pay money to any employee of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

They were adamant that they will not accept any official from the electricity distribution company who visits their homes without first providing them with pre-paid electricity meters.

They swore that they would not pay their monthly electricity bills unless they were provided with prepaid meters.

They issued a warning to officials from the electrical distribution company not to visit their homes if they did not have pre-paid meters.

The locals demanded the regularisation of PHCN meters, the supply of more feeders, the supply of more transformers to the communities, the metering of all unmetered residences, and the cessation of astronomical electricity bills in general.

No officials from the power distribution company would be permitted to collect money from people or cut their cables if they failed to comply with these requirements, according to the locals’ insistence.

During the campaign, the residents carefully put their banners in order to raise awareness among members of the public about the issue.

According to Engineer Rasak Fabayo, who spoke at the campaign’s launch, the communities were paying for services that they weren’t using, such as water and electricity.

“We are here to launch a ‘no meter no payment’ campaign. We are paying for what we are not using,” he said.

“On behalf of residents of Apete, Awotan, Araromi Akufo, Laniba, Ajibode, we are launching this campaign, if any IBEDC official comes to your house, and they demand money, tell them that no meter is no payment.”

Also, according to our correspondent, the citizens are extending their campaign to include Apete garage, Arola, Ajibode intersection, and other locations around the two local government districts.
