Saints Andrew Dũng-Lạc And His Companions, Martyrs

Rev 18:1-2,21-23,19:1-3,9
Luke, 21:20-28

In today’s Gospel passage, Jesus foretells the destruction of Jerusalem. The Bible says in Matthew 24:35, Heaven and earth will pass away but My Word will not pass away. The world and all its affairs are temporal. In other words, we must guide ourselves from focusing on them and gaze our focus on everlasting life. If the Temple of Jerusalem that was so cherished by the Jewish people can be destroyed, it means we must focus on where we are going to spend our eternity and obey God’s word. The future is in the hands of the Almighty God.

Although Jesus speaks of wars and instructions, upheavals, natural disaster and nation rising up against nation, we are called to continue in our efforts to work for justice and peace. Why bother to endure in the practice of virtues? Because the One who has loved us has called us to love Him and love one another in return. And in love, we need not fear but have faith and hope in His word. His words are spirit and other are life. The Lord cherishes us and encourages us with his words today. He says, stand erect, Hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand. Do not be afraid. Be Ready to meet Him Always!
