Sandro Tonali Faces Long Ban Over Alleged Betting

Sandro Tonali, a star for Newcastle United, will appear before the authorities as part of the investigation into an alleged illegal betting scandal.

A Turin prosecutor’s investigation that has rocked Italian football has named Nicolo Zaniolo of Aston Villa, Nicolo Fagioli of Juventus, and Tonali.

Italian authorities who are looking into potential violations of gambling laws questioned Zaniolo and Tonali before releasing them from the Italy team on Thursday.

The Juventus midfielder Fagioli was willing to meet with prosecutor Giuseppe Chine on Sunday, it was revealed. He was hoping to get a lighter sentence.

In an effort to have his potential ban reduced by half, Tonali, a star for the Magpies, is reportedly willing to do the same.

Sandro Tonali will also try to meet with prosecutor Giuseppe Chine, according to Il Messaggero, and the meeting is anticipated to happen the following week.

Tonali will seek a plea deal in the future by confessing to the charges in front of the prosecution, which most likely will result in a shorter possible prison sentence.

Calcia Finaza claims that Juventus midfielder Fagioli met with attorneys and investigators on Sunday to denounce himself, and that during that meeting, he turned over his cell phone.

The source asserts that before claiming to have received an illegal betting application from Tonali of Newcastle, Fagioli revealed the specifics of the gambling drama.

According to rumours, when asked about Tonali’s alleged gambling tendencies, the midfielder said, “I don’t know if he bets on football.”

If the players are found to have broken the rules, they could receive global suspensions of up to three years.

Athletes are prohibited from gambling on the sports in which they compete in Italy.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
